Why Good Governance is Local Governance?
To promote good governance, one has to be a partner of local governance. Being a partner means assisting local government units (LGUs) in the various facets of local governance. A partner should also be in a position to promote the interests and welfare of t he LGUs and t he local government stakeholders, including national government agencies and ins t i tut ions as wel l as non government organizations’. This means that there must be an active effort to engage the policy makers and work together to further improve on local governance. Of course, one could only be an effective partner if it is able to work along well with other stakeholders.
Development work requires continuing partnerships and collaboration so that various i n i t i a t i v e s d o n e b y m a n y organizations may at least be coordinated and allow synergy. This way, local government work can be exciting and will without doubt result to considerable impact. There should be a standard to all these various work. The standard is decentralization. There may be mixed results in the implementation of decentralization, but clearly, it is a sound political as well as management model for good governance to develop and take root. It is in this sense that we at the Local Government Development F o u n d a t i o n ( LOGODE F ) i s committed to work incessantly and vigorously. We believe that “good governance is local governance.”
